Team Jumbo – Visma wins Stage 1 TTT, the ADNOC Stage, of the UAE Tour. Primoz Roglic wears the first Red Jersey

Al Hudayriat Island, Abu Dhabi, 24 February 2019 – The Team Jumbo – Visma has won Stage 1, the ADNOC Stage, of the inaugural edition of the UAE Tour, ahead of Team Sunweb and Bahrain – Merida, recording an average speed of 57.086km/h. The Slovenian rider Primoz Roglic, first on the finish line, is the leader of the GC and was awarded the Red Jersey, Green Jersey and Black Jersey.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the winner Primoz Roglic said: “It was a very fast time trial and of course we’re very happy to start the season with this performance. We came here with strong time trialists. We didn’t really decided that I’d cross the line first but I took a strong turn at the end. It’s nice to be in the lead and we want to win the race overall, but there are hard stages to come and we have to take it day by day.”

TOMORROW’S STAGE

Stage 2 – SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD GAMES ABU DHABI STAGE – Yas Island-Abu Dhabi Breakwater – 184km
Raced around the streets of the city of Abu Dhabi, Stage 2 follows one of the classic Abu Dhabi Tour stages. Starting from Yas Mall, the first part of the route in the northeast part of the city heads towards Khalifa Port, where there is a U-turn on the pier. The riders return to the city along Channel Street and then they ride through from Yas Island to Saadiyat Island, past the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Corniche until the reaching the finish line at Abu Dhabi Breakwater for what is expected to be the first sprint of the race.

Final Km
The final 5km are all on wide roads with gentle semi-curves that lead to the final straight on tarmac.
